These two are starter's lenses. At this price range you cannot expect too much. I've used Sigma APO w/marco II before. From 70mm to 200mm, they perform pretty good, quite clear and sharp but 300mm is soft. Somebody says Tamron's 300mm even softer (I'm not sire). According to the reviews and reports, APO lens is comparable to Nikon's ED lens. In daylight, the focusing is OK while indoor shooting are slow because of their small aperture f4 to f5.6 which you should understand. I personally prefer Sigma to Tamron. Make sure it is Sigma APO 70-300mm Macro II lens ( Red Ring) not Sigma 70-300mm with Macro.
