Here are some basic rules :
General rules:
1. Put the main subject / attraction in 1/3 spot of the frame (golden rule of third)
2. Don't let un-related subject appear in your photo as much as possible.
Addition rules for scenery photos :
3. Leave at least 1/3 'empty' space. eg. sky, sea, plain, desert (留白).
4. Include near, middle, far away objects. ie make it 3 D
5. Include colorful subjects eg. red leaves, sunset, colorful yatch ......
6. use Gradual Neutral Density filter to avoid over exposed sky thus preserve the blue / orange color of the sky.
7. Allow the viewer go into the scene. ie don't completely block the front of the frame.
If it is a tree, there must be space to look thru.
If it is a river band, it should not completely occupy the front of the whole frame.
