P is programe ==> both shutter and aperture are set automatically

tv is shutter speed priority ==> u can set the shutter speed manually and camera set the aperture szie depend on your shutter speed (half manual function)

av is aperture priority ==> this function is similar to tv, but this time u set the aperture manual and camera set the shutter speed

m is manual ==> both shutter and aperture are set by yourself

firstly i need to say sorry that

about your question, um.....
shall i clarify the function of shutter and aperture first?

in fact both shutter and aperture are used to control light enter your camera.

for shutter, if u want to freeze a fast motion. then use a fast shutter. for example, u want to take a running car with clear image, then choose a fast shutter speed. understand my meaning?

moreover, if u want to get a light depth of field, u need to choose a large aperture (small f number). for example, when u choose a large aperture i.e. f2.8 to take a person, the person should be very sharp but the background is blur. however light depth of filed is difficult to observse in DC. it is because the size of the CCD is smaller than film. thus a light depth of field cannot be observsed easily.

so i really can't tell u when should use which mode, it totally depend on want feeling of the photo u want to give, etc, freeze the motion? blur the background? or somthing like that.

and about the M mode, as i said that before, all parameters are set by the user. that means M mode is totally depended on the experience of the photographyer. so i can't say M mode is better than the pre-set programe.

i hope u can understand what i said, and i will try to learn how to type chinese.
