I have used Canon only for my DC in the past year and the IXUS series CCD is the best.

850IS possess 7MP - enough for amatuer photo taker,

ISO up to 1600 - more than enough,

reaction is fast for switching on & save,

28mm wide - very good for scene shooting

Battery life is acceptable

Preset mode is enough

The IXUS DIGIC III face focus function is very good, and, can take up to 4 face in a pic as my experience in this month.

No battery life display, only warn at low voltage and take just 4-5 pic and off.

IS function seems not good enough, but OK when your hand do not shake.

Very good small DC as I used before.

2. IS works. Tripod is not required for general night scene at ISO400.

8. Made in Japan.

1. A bit noisy at high ISO when is common for DC. Anyway, acceptable.

2. Covers of card./battery and A/V out made of plastic.
