u need an FD to EOS adaptor (with a glass element) in order to focus to infinity, but the quality is really BAD

SSP much cheap

there are 2 types of adaptors
with and without correction glass
difference is as obi-wan ching mentioned

for long lens ( >105-135) , you may not need the correction glass to focus properly. so if u can avoid, buy the one without glasses inside

but your lens is a zoom lens from 70mm, so the best way is carry ur lens and 40D and try before you buy

there is a ching who can modify lens to EF mount (CYkxxxxx ching),you can find him by searching FD mount in 2nd hand market forum in this site

this is the easy n one-n for all way
but u cannot use it back on FD mount camera
