To all Ching, I am a new learner, which one is recommended with the consideration of $$ and quality. I use 500d with sigma 18-50 2.8 already.

55-250 is a perfect choice with limited budget. The photo quality is good. The speed is fast and 窮人USM. A Canon len of HK$1700 with IS. This is only one len that Canon 賣大飽.

If you compare Tamron or Sigma 70-300, you know this Canon len is excellent.

Of course, 小小白 IS is much much much better but it costs you more buck HK$9000,

Actually I also have the same question. I was considering 55-250 vs 小小白 (non-IS), as the cost is more affordable. I tried 小小白 once before, it's very heavy. But I just wonder is the photo quality much better than 55-250?

A 2nd hand 55-250 IS costs you only $1,300.-
You may buy a second hand one to play a while and sell it out.
