should i wait for a possible IS model (coz this model is 8 years old la... i think it's likely they will make an IS version).

PS: buy the 24-70mm lens so that when i get the newest FF body i can have a suitable lens.

im currently using 40D. i am betting that 5DM2 will be replaced by 5DM3 soon and so i have decided to wait for the next FF body.
meanwhile decided to buy a new lens first.
struggled between 70-200mm f/2.8 and the 24-70mm.

They are two different lens. it all depends what you want to shoot,
I use 24--70 in more than 60% of time, while 70-200 only less then 10% of time mainly because it is too heavy. hope this give you some reference

i just got 24-70mm before CNY because i scare the lens's price will only go up..besides at this range, I accepted without IS. Anyway, depends on your situation. If you need this lens urgently, then go get it.

For FF, 24-70mm safety shutter speed is only 1/24s or 1/70s.

To prevent hand shaking, just increase ISO to 800 or 1600 will be good for most lighting environment.

I don't understand why it needs IS. Pls advise.

I agree that IS is not really necessary for this range, however, it will be an advantage in some occasions.

1) For FF, 24-70mm safety shutter speed is only 1/24s or 1/70s.
the lowest safe shutter speed (in theory) is 1/50 without IS for all lens

2) For home lighting, ISO 1600 @ F2.8 should be around 1/30. This is my personal experience only. Safe shutter (without using flash) can be done with 1-stop IS for F2.8

24-70 f2.8 with IS will cost over $15,000!

If you are planning to get 5D2, its ISO performance is very good, I can use ISO 3200 indoor without flash and print 4R photos with no noise. Save your money and go for the non-IS version now.

I think it have some techical problem to launch EF 24-70 IS USM. Do u remember the size of EFS 17-55 IS USM F2.8. The size is very large and heavy. If 24-70L IS USM, the weight like small white IS f2.8, will u buy it?

the weight, the additional benefits of IS (not as much as i thought after reading all you guys' opinions) and the price makes the additional IS (if there is any) not a worthy purchase.

24-70 呢個焦距都要IS, 建議CHING都係多練習, 等隻手定D好過啦.
