Don't buy!!! because SanDisk claim because it is Class 4 so it doesn't work with the camera HD video (the camera will stop recording around 20 to 30 sec of a clip)

But the Toshiba 8MB Class 2 that came with the work is ok, and i heard other CHING said other brands such as kingston are ok as well, so only the SanDisk doesn't work, and they will not treat it under warranty so basically if other CHING brought this, they will be like me a very upset customer suck with a $3xx card that cannot take HD video.

but my wording is right wor, if the card doesn't work for HD video then it is considered not working for Canon 550D lor.. right? maybe my english is not that good. plus 90% of the time i used my canon 550D for HD video.. so for me basically the card is considered NOT workable for 550D

Sorry for your problem. But it is stated clearly on Pg. 123 of the user manual (see the link below) that, "When shooting movies, use a large-capacity SD card rated SD Speed Class 6 or higher". If you use a slow-reading card when shooting movies, the movie might not be recorded properly."

So it's only lucky that your slower SD card of Toshiba or Kinston works okay with shooting HD movie. But there is no reason to blame Sandisk Class 4 for not being able to properly take HD movie, as it is just not meant to be taking HD movie. A Class 4 SD would otherwise be perfectly okay for taking pictures, which is the primary function of a DSLR.

So it's just a matter of incompatibility of a piece of accessory with your camera. Especially, if your case of using your DSLR to take HD video more than take still pictures.

I think you could blame the shop selling you the Sandisk SD for not telling you the incompatibility, that is only if you had already asked the right question about compatibility. But if you had not asked the right question about compatibility, the shop didn't really have the responsiblity to check with you if you are buying the correct and compatible SD card, then you could be the only one to blame. Cruel as it may sound, but that's quite the case.

Lastly, if the Sandisk SD is okay in all other aspect (recording and playing of still pictures), it's unlikely that you will get an exchange or a refund. But you could still try to contact Sandisk directly (by email or phone), and request for an exchange (but at extra cost) for a Class 6 or even Class 10 SD card.

I understand your frustration, especially that Sandisk SD is usually more expensive than other brands. Sorry!

BTW, Sandisk only has Class 4 (Ultra) SD and Class 10 (Extreme) SD, but no Class 6 SD.

Thank you all CHINGs for inputs. Yes, i must admit it's my fault for first not asking the right question to the right person (because the sale guy told me this card is perfect for Canon 550D and good for video and i am sure all CHINGs will agree i can't do much/return this product as this was purchased in Golden).. and second when i was making the decision (without the class 6 requirement knowledge) on which brand to go with, that i chose SanDisk (as now i found out SanDisk Ultra is the only 'unlucky' product out there).. Yes there's nothing wrong with the SanDisk Ultras, they are performing as they meant and advertized to, the only problem is that in this competitive world, it is always the different, bonus, extra your products can do compare to others that make your product stand out .... and in this case, yes Sandisk ultras did stand out, but in a bad way.

An example, a sedan is meant for 4 passengers + a driver, of course with the 5 seat belts and such... but if there's a brand out there that if you seat 6 persons, the car will break down then will u buy that?

Laza, thanks for your info, I already contacted technical support and they told me they are awared of this issue as they already received several similar complaints (i guess there are more amateur out there besides me, hehehe) and they are working on resolving the reasons why their Ultras are not performing compare to other brands in the market.

Yup, lesson learned with a price tag of $315... but unfortunately i lost my fate with Sandisk, i guess amateurs like me should go with a more 'tolerating' brand.

其實呢個先係問題. ultra r/w 都係15mb/s, 冇理由會唔夠快.
我都係用sandisk ultra 16gb, 不過唔係550d而係sx1is, 影hd video影到爆卡先停.

use your computer FORMAT the card, then
use your camera FORMAT the card!

I once used a Transcend 16Gb Class 2 card and I faced same problem. After formatting, everythings just works fine.

Just like harddisks, when you write/delete several times, your actual filing sector are separate far apart which significant decrease the write/read speed. In computer, you use defragment tools. For the card, you may try just formatting it.

計下數, 15MB/s, 即理論上每分鐘最高應寫到800-900 Mb左右, 但呢個理論的速度大約係class 10 卡實際上寫大file才能達到!

class 4的意思只係話minimum writing speed 係4MB/s, 最低即240MB

我拍的全高清片數都係每分鐘約300-350mb左右, 如果format左張卡都仲唔得的話, 即係你係極唔好彩地得到一張接近下限的sd卡, 其實只要比下限快少少, 能寫6MB/s應能應付拍片, 所以我之前張class 2 transcend拍片亦冇問題

好多report都話sandisk唔係出名快, 只出名貴, 係比d雜廠card穩定, transcend一般真係快好多
