I am planing to buy 60D soon and now considering on the lens (kit lens is not considered). Below is my list
Canon EF-S 17-55 F2.8 IS USM
Sigma 17-50 EX DC OS HSM
My question is "is it worth to pay around $2K more to buy canon?"
Any Ching, any advices?

Do you have experience on Sigma's lens?

if yes & you think it's OK,
then you can go for the Sigma.

If no, then go for the Canon will be better.

This 60D will be my 1st DSLR and I am only using Canon G10 now. I have no DSLR or SLR experience. Anyway, I will put Canon on my consideration list.

Yes, Ching. I don't want to change lens frequently if the price is acceptable. That's what I am still considering Sigma and it is just more $3000 than kit set.

Even if assuming they are same in qality & built, but
1. Sigma may easy to have 移焦，do you want to take this risk?
2. Compability, canon has some correction on dark corner & distortion for their lens
3. Re-selling price
4. Vanity, 17-55 is the best lens in the ef-s group

If you think above is not worth for $2k,
then you can go for the Sigma

If you don't have DSLR or SLR experience, I would suggest you to buy Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 and feel what the huge difference between G10 and 60D is.

Trust me!!! Buy Canon 50mm f/1.8!

You will see some miracle.

那又是的！

其實要 Cal 鏡 唔代表支鏡有問題，
只可能是 鏡頭與機身 配搭問題！

不過新人買鏡時唔識試、又唔識揀，
返到屋企影極都唔sharp，後來先知叫做移焦，
但又唔知點做 個吓心情，我真係試過！

不過玩影相也應學懂這些問題怎樣處理，
才會有進步，這才會有更多的選擇！

Thanks all for your valuable advices. Now I should know what I need la!

C50.8 (or 50.4) will be another lens when my child is born in future. But 17-55 is my 1st consideration as it's range is common in general use. If ned, 70-200 should be my 3rd lens in future and it is not urgent to buy now.
