Both of them are not good for EF-S body. For full frame, 24-70 or 28-70 is good for 長插 but in EF-S body: --

16-35 = 25.6-56: The zoom range of is too short and in real life, you will always found changing lens are required

24-70 = 38.4-112: The zoom range is better but it is not wide enough to meet your 長插 criteria and you will also need change lens occassionly.

You do not consider EF-S, i guess you want to upgrade to full frame in future. But if you willing to pay for such expensive lens but not suitable for EF-S body, I think you are better to buy a FF body directly. The two lens that you are mentioned are not cheap compared with the FF body! For example, 5D mark 1 is still a very good body.

個人見解 , 16-35 II , 比較好
因為影唔到就係影唔到,
部相機有成千5萬一般黎講授(我)都唔會用得盡,成日都resize , 所以剪裁相可以變得tele一點,壓縮感一定冇70mm咁強,針冇兩頭利.
當然,你都可以話用兩張相做合成,但(我)覺得比較煩同難

For long terms, I think you should by 24-70L. The weight balance with 50D is still manageable. Also, if it isn't wide enough than you can adjust it humanly by stepping forward or backward. Between the photo quality is very shape and with bigger f stop, I found it very useful. The first choice for general use.

其實我自己考慮左好耐都比較偏向24-70, 可能因為我多數都係影人(老婆+囝囝), 就算x1.6個range都會好d, 反而唔夠wide就變得冇咁重要.
而我點解會考慮16-35, 係因為有其他師兄話用35mm影人都好好, 咁就又可wide又可以影人..

就係我用50d..我有一支 sigma 17-70 2.8 , 一支24-105, 一支35mm 2.0
依家我又心大心細想將支24-105 賣出去, 去換支24-70, 不過問好多朋友意見,
1 :太重...
2. 賣完又要補錢換鏡
我本身都係影人多過影景...
24-105 同 24-70 影人...係咪真係相差好遠呢 ?
大家又認為 sigma 支17-70 ok 嘛 ? 我又心大心細想換支17-55 ?

我覺得你而家d鏡都夠晒影人, 如果一定要換鏡, 咁不如賣晒sigma 17-70 2.8 & 24-105先入24-70, 咁就唔駛太多重疊焦距, 有需要仲可以加多支ultra wide影景.

你剛剛買50D?? 俾我我會買canon 17-55 2.8 個range 就可以長插啦
canon 17-55 2.8 唔會比 L lens 差好多 可以話係EFS geh 皇者

只不過我覺得有時唔夠wide,影風景同建築物影唔到個氣勢啫.
