how about this lens??

Canon usm is slow???

It's not related to USM, AF normally is slower on macro lens due to it is designed for manual focus. Similar situation on 100 mm macro too.

Both 180 f/3.5 and 100 f/2.8 are good macro lenes, the question you should be asked is which body to mount it to? If APS-C standard, the focal range of 180 mm may be too long hence X1.6 effect.

If weather is OK, longer should be better for insect, butterfly, normal speakling "一吋長一吋強"
