I am thinking to upgrade 1D3 to 1D4. I need you advice to comment the performance of these cameras in terms of AF and IQ, especially AF. I don't have budget to keep both cameras at the same time. If the difference is not too big, I may not consider to do the switch.

For my experience same as you I switch 1D mark IV for 6 months. I found that the picture in TV is sharper than mark III .

I have just upgraded from 1D3 to D7000 and will up to D400....ha....My friend also updated from 7D to 1D4 now to D7000....HA...HA

1D3 to 1D4 is great.. you can notice the difference.

As for 1D4 to D7000.. it's totally 2 different cameras in 2 different class.
