Hi everybody, I want to buy the Gitzo tripod and head. I have a 50D body and the most heavy lenses are Canon 100-400mm and Canon180mm Macro. Do you think GT1541T and GH2781TQR are good match and strong enough for my gears? Besides, can any C Hing tell me where can I get the best deal? Why Gitzo?! Just because I like its design!

The reason of why I am choosing GT1541T is its new folding design. Much easier for one to carry it around and light in weight. Am I making sense?! Please give advice........:)

I have just learned from some other forums that the Gitzo's ballheads are not secure enough for holding the gears and even quite risky when changing shooting angle (easily to lose balance and fall down)!!! If this is right.....then would any C Hing tell me which ballheads are good?! Besides, I also love to have a panning lever with the head. Please help.....

支traveller係唔錯，夠短夠輕又穩陣，我都有支(幾年前買)去旅行都可以放埋入行李箱。我都係用佢既ball head，會失平衡會跌？講笑咩﹗
不過個ball head就真係唔係太實，我指係portrait position，5D II + 小白。唔係話會鬆會郁，只係一定要好大力上實佢。我覺得如果機身唔太重係冇問題。

Thanks JSmith, you're right.....I trust that GT1541T and GH2781TQR will 100% fine in most cases. What I am concerning now is whether there are else heads/brands which will work better then the Gitzo's one. I definitely will take Gitzo GT1541T but I am now open for any good suggestions for the heads. That's why, Ive raised another option previously ie GT1541T + Markins Q3TR. The price range is +/- 2K.

Ballhead I recommend Photoclam 40NS, same design as Markins Q3 but much cheaper. I am using Gitzo 1550T with Photoclam 33NS and mount 5D2 and 100-400 with 580EX on it, never had any problem. 40NS is bigger than 33NS, for me 33NS is more than adequate, but some people like it bigger to be safe!

Thank you so much lamsk & fish30d. OK...and how about a good and firm quick release plate?! Any recommendation?! And where will be the best place to go for those ie Gitzo tripod, Markins ballhead and ???quick release plate?

After consultation with someone. I would consider the GT1541 or GT2541 and choose the Markins Q3 ballhead.....

I am using GT1541 and GH1780QR ballhead. Perfect match and they stand like a rock. You might want to go to Tin Cheung at TST and see it for yourself if you like it or not.

dont buy the 1541, the legs at the fourth session are too thin... and shaky....

buy 1531, 3 section, much stronger and stable.

or buy the 2 series...

Ballhead - Markins are too expensive... not worth... and the so called quick release is not quick release at all... you have to screw in the quick release plate and it takes time....

I prefer a cheaper one... the Manfrotto 486RC - real quick release.
