All the way people were talking about is Canon, i.e. the same brand as your camera.

It depends on what kind of performance your daughter participates at school. In-door, out-door, day, night, fast, slow, very very different and there is no one size fits all solution.

I suggest you switch back to the point and shoot type of DC; I am sure the successful rate of a good take will be much higher. 450D is too complcate for you, unless you really want to spend sometime to read, try and learn before putting into action like school performance which you can't have the 2nd take (at least not the same performance).
