Hi Chings,

I just bought 430EX II tonight (I am using 500D), and have to use it on Friday. I never use external flash before and I am running out of time to read the manual that comes with the flash. Any chings can provide a summary how to use it? I am using M and Av mode mostly.

u may try to use Program.
flashlight set to ETTL-II.
just press the shutter button, auto flash control it ok.

Another question is whether you use alkaline batteries or re-chargeable batteries? The sales recommends me to buy re-chargeable batteries and charger. Which brand is better and where to buy is cheaper?

re-chargeable batteries for sure, because
1) recharge = save money,
2) abt 20-30% faster reload time for 430 EX II when use (very important)

I have no idea about the brands, I cannot see huge difference for that

if you use A mode, the mode for ETTL-II flash is fill-flash. So you need to think whether this is what you need

if you are newbie in flash, I also suggest you to use P-mode

if you plan to use flash @ outdoor, rem to set the FP-flash as well
