If no compensaton, the exposure should be similar. Otherwise, your camera is "sick". They are set for different usage. For e.g. for sport - use Tv , for flower - use Av.

I've never use P Mode. So, I don't know. For me, it is really redundant

P mode is just like auto mode. Only flash light is auto in P mode.
