if you are not using and not going to upgrade to FX, the LB5 will do a great job on D300s.

In terms of focal range, LB5 and the 105 is quite overleap. How often do you need a macro lens? I think that's the question you need to find out. Also are you willing to carry the two 2.8 lenses at the same time?

For a one time ever purchase, the LB6 is the latest technology and the top of the range Nikon technology, like VRii, Nano coating, edge to edge sharpness .....

Same question as I always ask. "What is your need?"

why not second hand 105VR? it is also a good choice.
