Of course hand carry, except accessories such as charger and flash. I never understand why would people put fragile and valuable equipment in their check-in luggage. No matter how careful you pack your stuff, there is always a chance of the luggage or the content getting damaged. Wherever you go in this world, there are always unscrupulous people stealing valuables from luggage and that include airports. Even if your tuff is full covered by insurance, if they got damaged or stolen, are you going to spend the time and effort to get a new set of equipment in the destination?

Why are you concerned with that? Do you think X-ray would damage your lens and camera? Back in the "film" days with limited number of direct long-haul flights, I had made trips with multiple stops carrying my loaded camera without experiencing any ill effect of X-ray on the films.

Hand carry is better. Don't worry about X-ray.

Don't miss the 淡水 漁人碼頭 sunset.
It takes about 35 minutes 捷運 + 10 minutes bus to get there from Taipei station.
