Hi all

I have a 200mm f/2.8L II, mainly for taking pictures of my cat in my tiny house but found the minium focus distance of 1.5m to be too long.

I am looking to replace the 200mm with either the 100mm macro

New version
Pro: newer version, L Lens, better picture quality, image stabilizer, lighter in weight
Con: some said plastic built, image stabilizer not useful at 1:1, expensive

Old Version
Pro: cheaper, very good picture quality even for non L lens
Con: 10 yr old model, no IS

Anyone one has any suggestion? Many thanks.

100mm marco 2.8L is good for marco. For day to day photo, focus will be relatively slow and image will be toooo sharp. Suggest you can try the following:

1. 70-200 f4l is - convenient with good image quality,
2. 85 f1.2l
3. 135 f2l
4. 85 f1.8

I actually hard 70-200 f/2.8 before, but too heavy even with a monopod, plus I end up using the 200mm on that lens most often, that's why I switch to my 200mm f/2.8 II

85 f1.2 too expensive
135 f/2, a bit too expensive

maybe I will try out 85 f/1.8 at store to see the focus speed
