Another Technical Question Post time: 1 月 28 日 |

Hi Chings,
I have another problem with my 500D + kit lens.
When I take night time indoor photos, and I use night portrait, the photos are OK not blurred BUT very yellow.
So I change it to Av or M mode, and set AWB to tungsten light. Now the photos are no longer yellow, but NOT colourful, and people's faces look very pale.
How to deal with this? THANKS
Another thing is for night time indoor photos, if I use Av or M mode, what ISO should I usually use? I am using internal flash at the moment. For M mode, say, if I am using 55mm focal length, so I should set shutter speed at roughly 1/60? For F, biggest at 55mm is 5.6. Some chings say it should be 2 stop down, so I use F8?
THANKS

Try ISO 800, A mode AWB flash, but flash -0.5EV
IF ok, try tungsten white balance
IF ok, try put a yellow or orange plastic bag to cover the internal flash, see see which color do u like

You may forget about all the ISO, aperture, WB .... etc. if you do not remember the most fundamental thing in photography - LIGHT. Photography means drawing with light.
In dark conditions, no matter how high you set your ISO, the best you could do is to "capture" what can be seen. In such condition, as the object cannot reflect much light, pale or unsharp image is expected.
Having this concept in mind, you would further understand why in some cases people would tend to use a flash even in good lighting conditions.

Obi-wan,
Many ching here said rebound from ceiling or wall can provide light that is softer, minimizing shadows, right? So when shooting outdoor, say at a park, how can I rebound? You said, you use flash even under sunlight, can you explain more, like how you do that?
THANKS
