the main advantage is in the use of flash. You'll see that the accuracy of metering of the flash is much better than 500D and 450D. +/- Flash EV is no more necessary in many cases.

EOS 7D 採用嶄新的iFCL (Intelligent Focus, Color, Luminance) 測光系統,能分析對焦點、色彩及明亮度的資料,以提升測光表現。其63區雙層感應器,能利用色譜資訊測光。感應器第一層能感應RGB三原色中的R波長及G波長,而感應器第二層則能夠感應B波長及G波長。系統通過比較兩者所得的數據,除了可以檢測亮度以外,更可以辨別光源中的光譜分佈,從而計算出最佳的曝光,改善傳統測光感應器對紅色波長特別敏感而做成對紅、黃色主體產生曝光不足的現像,令測光更靈敏準確。

為追求更細緻準確的曝光表現,系統更利用從所有自動對焦點所得的對焦資訊協助辨別拍攝主體的位置和大小,以達至最佳的測光效果。

I guess the main difference of the iFCL is that it won't be easily cheated by different colors. I strongly feel this when I take photos with flowers. It do improved a lot.

alway feels ETTL isn't nicety enough!!

new iFCL mainly improves the exposure problem when taking with color stuff:

That's why when you take flowers with old machine, you'll always find that the exposure varies. However, it is now more consistent and more accurate.

If you do try to take a photo on a yellow card, then take a photo on a white card. You'll find that the exposure value is the SAME for the same light source (for the OLD machine). However, this problem is solved and the exposure is different for the NEW machine.
