The price of 16 - 35 mm zoom must be above $10,000.

But, can Nikon produce 16 - 85 mm full frame zoom?

I long for such lens more!

I am one of the previous Nikon film and now full-frame camera users.

In addition to purely utrawide zooms, I would also prefer Nikon to develop ultrawide to telephoto full-frame zooms (although I understand that it involves the most difficult technology).

Generally speaking, I think, we take photos in wide to telephoto range in more than 90% situations.

In older days, we had 35 - 70 mm, 35 - 105 mm, 35 - 135 mm, 35 - 200 mm zooms.

As technolgies developed, we had 28 - 70 mm, 28 - 85 mm, 28 - 135 mm, 28 - 200 mm zooms.

Now, we have 24 - 70 mm, 24 - 85 mm, 24 - 120 mm zooms (full-frame).

But, can Nikon (or even Canon, Tamron, Sigma, Tokina lens manufacturers) develop the zooms further to ultrawide angle side?

Can they develop 20 - 85 mm, 18 - 85 mm, or even 16 - 85 mm zooms?
(In fact, these are really "dream lenses")

Is the technology really very difficult for them to develop zooms lens of such ultrawide to medium telephoto range?

I hope that other C-hings can share similar opinions with me.

agreed, 16-85 35mm equivalent is really a dream..

if they can make 16-85 f2.8-4 VRII and nano coating ED, haha, this could be a dream lens

but I reckon such lens must be worth over 18k

i would really think for zoom 24mm is as wide as any manufactuer will make in a long term,
but they might lengthen the tele length from 70 to 85...

I want to buy one of those with VR.. (35mm equv)

Tele length of 85 mm is OK.

But I do hope Nikon to develop the zoom lens farther to the utrawide angle side, say, 20 mm, 18 mm or even 16 mm.

I am just afraid that they need 3 - 5 years to develop such a 20 - 85 mm or 18 - 85 mm zoom lens (full frame), or even 10 years to develop a 16 - 85 mm zoom lens (full frame).

Technology may NOT be easy (though these are "dream lenses" for all those who need to travel abroad)

the problem is inside the lens will be bigger
so the price will be very high that people won't buy
also may be some lens edge tech is not very good

if they release 20~85mm i think just only F3.5~5.6
nikon was stop production the afs-24~85 f3.5-5.6
