Recent pricing strategies of Nikon and Canon have been very aggressive. While there was no big breakthrough in lens technology, the major breakthrough was price. N85.4G is a very good example, a 10% improvement in technology and 80% increase in price (compared with existing 85.4D). For me, even for the same price, I will buy the old 85.4D for a better build (no plastic feeling). The new 70-200 2.8 for both N and C are a lot more expensive than the previous generation, with marginally better technology. If we continue to buy these new lenses, N and C will continue this pricing strategy. What do you think?? Stop buying to show our dissatisfaction?

totally agree. and it is this group of clients who are willing to pay xx% more in price and get 1% improvement to give incentives to N and C to push for new technology. But the thing is, once a better lens is released, they will cut off the older version. And for those who are not willing to get x% price increase with 1% improvement, either they have to pay a lot more, or turn to a lens with inferior quality.

Not only 加價. I also heard about another 無良 story. In a post a guy complained that the new N105 micro is not made in China and not MIJ. But the price is exactly the same. That means N is making much more profits. The benefits of moving production from Japan to China are not passed to consumers.

Let's do a test. Who wants to buy the new 85.4G (price $13,000) pls raise their hands. Existing one (85.4D) is selling at $7,400. The new S85.4 is coming out and according to my experience with S50.4, it will beat the N85.4G but selling at a much lower price.

85mm 1.4G is too expensive for me. I will choose either S 85mm 1.4 or N 85mm 1.4D.
