Usually event type of shooting mid-range zoom is very useful... for your D300, 17-55 is quite good....

有冇外閃? 冇就買支用la, 輕便既SB-400又好, SB-600又好, 影event用外閃煩少好多野, 可以專心捕捉有趣及有意義既一刻

I am assuming you have the 70-200 2.8 for your normal birding photo. Bring that for the ceremony.

And then change to the 17-55 2.8 or 24-70 2.8 immediately after that.

Longer zoom allow you to get in closer with the couple with the situation did not allow you to moving too close or you might block the view of others.

mid range zoom allow you to capture the scene with the couple as well.

Most of them are done by 24-70 2.8

btw, do more homework on poses before you go for the day. If you are not specialise in wedding, you may come across brain dead and can't think of poses during the day.

Also keep in mind that lighting is the key.
