that depends on what kind of pictures you takes more... Nikon 16-85mm.. covers from landscapes to portraits...

in my opinion the 18-105 kit of nikon is just a convinient lens for you to take it on trip (based on weight/focal lenght)... and i think the picture quality is acceptable as well..

thats just my opinion.. don't kill me..
