I just used my dc last sunday and i opened the dc today, a message "!CARD NOT INITIALZED" appeared and I cant take photos!!
I tried to take remedy action as suggested by the dc user's manual by format the SmartMedia and wipe the contact area of the card but no help...:(

I tried to insert another memory card and it could function normally!!
what can I do?? Please help!!!

P.S. the manual explains the contact area may be "soiled", but i dont un what it means............

When you formatted your card by the DC, any message did it show on screen? (If formatted successful, it will return to menu)

如果部相機唔可以 format 張咭而另一張插落去又可以用，咁好大機會是張咭壞，但可再試用一個 card reader 以 PC format 張咭，如改用 PC 可 format 張咭，咁張咭就無壞，而可能是部相機有問題，format 的 fucntion 失效，但其他就正常，不過我相信妳張咭壞的機會多d。
先找出原因，如有朋友有同樣用SmartMedia的相機，可用來一試便知。

Actually I am using the card reader to format the card rather than using the DC because i dont know the format function in DC actually......
just really dont know why will it happen!!!!!!

May I know can it be formatted by your PC sucessfully? If yes, the card is OK.
Some DC can not INITIALZED the card after formatted by the PC. I have this exp. before. After I re-format it by my DC (Canon S40), it works again.

Would you pls. tell us what the model is you DC? let us try to find out the formatting method in your DC for you.

Try step by step to find out what it happen.

Thank you dede for your advice. I have tried to use the dc to re-format the disc yesterday and it could work again.....
