This is a very small and compact, light (269gm) and high-build quality ultrawide lens. No flare, no CA, open shadows (like all old Nikkor lenses). It gives great center sharpness and very acceptable /impressive IQ on the borders. It is soft on the border at f2.8 but sharpen up quite nicely by f5.6. By f8 it is tack sharp. In my experience there are limited uses for a wide angle at f stops wider than 5.6 so softness at f2.8-f4 simply isn't a big issue.
This is relatively inexpensive lens that truly opens the wide angle range to photographers and delivers excellent sharpness, good colors, and very high contrast. Its only minor drawback is that it shows a significant light falloff when shooting wide open (significant, not terrible), which is not surprising given the focal length and the aperture.
It is a joy to use this lens simply because it is so small and light, and also it is relatively fast, which makes manual focuing easy.
I bought this lens few years' back from a veteran Nikon user and apparently the lens has been very well cared for by the previous owner and has received no long-term regular use. Since the day I bought it, I have only used it very briefly during a one-week trip to Taiwan. Since then it has been lying in my dry cabinet, hence it is in over 98% condition and comes with all accessories including the front and rear cap and all papers and boxes. I will also throw in for free a Nikon UV.
