A dead point is the failure of a particular LCD or CCD element to display or capture an image pixel.

It exists mainly due to the maufaturing defect of the LCD or CCD, and once there is dead spots, there is no way to repair it.

Usually, a normal LCD or CCD with Mega pixels + may hae a chance to get some dead spots. Of course a LCD or CCD manufacturer can produce no dead spot LCD or CCD panel, but the cost is much higher since they just throw out those panels which contains dead spot during their QC stage.
Nowadays, as competition amongst the maufacturer is high, usually it is rare to find dead spots.
