Your question doesn't seem to be related to focusing issues.
Of course you can use a faster shutter speed but it depends on the situations (e.g. you can't use a 1/500s shutter for night shots as it wil not be fast enough.
Basically in bright daylight 1/60s is good for most. It depends on the focal length, though, the longer the focal length, the faster the shutter speed.
If you use A mode, the camera will determine the shutter speed for you based on its measured brightness. You should use S mode if you want to control the shutter speed. (I guess you knew this already)
You need to use a tripod (or place the camera on some fixed things) if you want to use a slow shutter speed. But it varies from people to people, some can take relative sharp photos even at slower speed than others.
You may also try different camera holding techniques to see if it helps.
BTW, you may fix some blur (if not too sereve) photos in computer later.

I guess that you want to take photo in night time. Right?
In night time, if you have not any tripod, you may need to open the flash.
The built-in flash for s602z is sufficient in the night time. But I suggest that you should select the flash mode to "Slow Syn" or "Slow Syn & Red Eye Reduction" if you take photo for models. In this mode, you may see that whole picture would be much better and the shutter will be faster to avoid any vibration and the background would be brighter and clear. Of course, to bring a tripod will be much better in the night time.
