This is just a general case.

1)A fixed focal length lens is technically easier to design and make than a zoom one. Fewer problem to overcome.

2)Less lens element in fixed focal length lens. Every piece of glass decrease image quality. Even the filter in front of the lens. Imagine stacking 30 UV filter and you shall see nothing. Fixed focal length lens can produce a sharper image in general.

There are more to say in this topic. This is only generally true when same level of lens are compared.
