Guys,
I do a lot of product shootings but I cannot call myself a professional as I do not have any photography qualification.
Anyway, I am using a Canon D60 along with my 17-35, 100 & 50 Macro, 28-70, & 70-200 Lenses. I realised that the colour of this Canon D60 is not very stayble. Even with same setting and light source, the colour still varies from time to time. I have been advise by professional as follow.
Switch to using the KODAK 14N and buy all the Nikkon lenses, sell my exsisting equipment.
2nd choice is to buy the new Canon 1D Mark II, what do you guys think?
Both of these solution cost basically the same.
Thank you
ERIC

One additional choice, wait and see how about Kodak SLR/C
Although i don't have any kodak dslr, i had used their pics to do some editings. The software interface of her is really better than japanese camera producers esp. in RAW processing, even better than photoshop CS.

Hi katoso.
Some suggestions:
1. If the new lowered price at $2X,000, the Kodak 14n is really a digital camera not to overlooked. It is a full frame digital camera. It has 14MP. It would be an excellent choice if i) you are on Nikon side, and ii) you shoot studio photography most of the time. The Kodak 14n is indeed old and has been discontinued from Kodak. However, it is selling fast in this new low price. Grap one asap if you can still find some in the street!
2. The Kodak SLR/n is the successor of 14n. And the new Kodak/c, an Caonon version of SLR/n is coming to town very soon. I'd suggest you wait and take a look at this camera before a decision is made. Since you do product shots, the 8fps on Canon 1D Mark II has little benefit to you. Instead, a 14MP senosr on the SLR/c should be your logical 2nd camera from your D60 (6MP).
3. 軍佬 mentioned incorrect balance setting may be the source to incorrect color. I coundn't agree more! Most pro digital cameras can shoot at raw. With the camera software, you can easily change the improper white balance setting and render the raw into JPEG again. The result will be 100% the same as you shoot with correct white balance setting in the camera. This is the power of camera raw, not to mention it is working at camera's 12-bit ore more full dynamic range data, instead of the final 8-bit JPEG.
Color management setting is another thing very likely contributed to the wrong color. It is a deep topic. But usually follow carefully the camera's user guide to set up properly on i) camera's, ii) camera software's, and iii) Photoshop's color spaces and it is likely you are on right track.
4. 老叟 mentioned " ... 數碼主要講究影像軟件後製 ...". It is true to a certain extend. But "軟件後製" will never be limited to Photoshop only. I'd say 90% of professional phogographers (those who shoot for living) I've met never submit their jobs processed with Photoshop.
The reason they don't use Photoshop is Photoshop can only work on the processed JPEG with limited room for correctons. Try bringing back the highlight details of an overexposed images taken at JPEG in Photoshop and you will know what I mean "limited room for correction". With images taken at camera raw, bringing back highlight detail is just within a few clicks or the move of a slide bar. Result is marvalous. White balance correction is the same story. The kind of non-linear color shift can hardly be corrected in Photoshop.
I'd suggest you look for digital camera with easy-to-use camera software included and shoot at raw, take some time to read the camera software user guide. It worths! Learning Photoshop skills is good but not a must.
Hope this helps!

Thanks all of you who posted me the useful hints. Post time: 5 月 9 日 |

Guys,
I would like to thank you for posting me such useful info.
I will from now do an esitmation on what or which to buy. I love photoshoot, I use the camera mainly for my magazine, I shoot watches most of the time. Sometimes, I have to shoot human as well and during free-time, I shoot landscape as hobby. I think the Canon will be my 1st choice as it will cost me less hassle because I can still use my lenses.
By the way, do you guys know if the older lenses match with this camera well (unlike the 10D which has a bit of focus problem.)
Thank you
ERIC (katoso)
