Since they are in different class of camera.

Firstly, you must ask yourself the purpose of the digital camera. If you need to carry it easily and take photo easily. Buy prosumer DC such as 8700 and A2. For me, I like A2 as it has anti-shake function.

Secondly, please think about the budget. DSLR will cost you much when investing the lens and accessories.

If budget is OK, I'll buy both -- D70 and A2. Sometime, prosumer DC is convenience.

I'm Nikon 8700 User

B4 I brought My 8700 I think Price is not much different
Just buy Prosumer Camera Ok Lah.....
8700 got ED Lens ,8.0MP, Zoom also not bad Etc.....!!!

Buy SLR future have to buy so much Lens and etc ( All is Money )

After use 8700 for two month, Start compare Prosumer & SLR

If really want to learn "Take Photo" take SLR you never reget !!!

$8000 is only enough to buy D70 body only. If you want to buy D70 kit (include 18-70mm ED lens), the price is around $10000.

But you can buy Canon 300D kit (include the len), the price is around $7700. And you can buy a cheap 90-300mm USM lens, I forget the exact price, maybe one thousand something (below $1500).

But I like D70 more.

I got one Pro Photographer friend He is using Nikon 100D

He told me If he can choose once again He will take Canon Product
not Nikon any more...

Why???.... Nikon Acc so Costly compare with Canon

If you buy 8700, you will want to upgrade it soon. For D70, I think you could use it for 4 -5 years (if you don't demand too advanced functions and pixels).

The only thing you need to bear in mind is the lens which can be very expenisve depending on your need!

Go for D70. I am planning to buy it too.

All depend on your budget if you can only affort $8,000, go for Canon 300D kit. In fact, Canon 300D is not so bad except the colour of its body.

Nikon is good for landscape
Canon is good for human portrait.

For D70, there is a cheap but reasonable lens -- 70-300mm G ($750)

So, you need to buy D70 kit (around $10000) + 70-300mm G ($750)

For Canon, you need to buy 300D kit (around $7700) and 90-300mm or 75-300mm USM (below $1500)

I have bought D70 one month ago. But I haven't enough money to buy a good lens such as 80-200mm F/2.8. So, I ask many people for suggestion. Because I like to take landscape photo and hate to take portrait and insects. So, I choose D70 kit and bought a cheap 70-300mm G lens. For normal users, around 80-90% of time are taking landscape photo. So, I prefer to buy a good wide lens (if budget is OK). The reason why I said that is my friend also bought "little black 5" but he seldom use it. He always uses 12-24mm wide lens as he like to take landscape photo very much.

So, if you are a ruch guy, go on and buy the good lens, otherwise, thinking about the purpose and plan to buy a suitable lens for you.

Anyway, saving more money in future and buy 80-200mm f/2.8 is also good. As it is many people's dream. It can satisfy your human wants no matter you only put it in a dry box. It is also my dream. Ha Ha......


Remark : If you decide to join DSLR, no matter you need to buy zoom lens or not. Buy the D70 kit and enjoy the DSLR feeling first. Wonderful.
