A80 is a bit heavy, that's true, but it has lot of features you can think of for the price of about $3000 - it use AA battery, flip-out lcd (a bit small), long battery life, manual mode.... It is a very good dc for entry level with quite advance functions and good quality for demanding users. Its size is a bit fat, but small enough to be carried around.

Ricoh is a very good at making point-and-shoot camera, they make very good lenses, ask someone why uses Ricoh GR-1, I have one for years, and you will, for sure, get very good comments. I am sure Ricoh has very good lenses for DC but not sure how long the battery can last.

Z2 is a good DC, but it is a bit fatter then A80.

S4i and Z40 is same, but it's quality is just ok.

I have had OM3040, Casio z40, Canon A80 and D300, I could tell the difference.

If you don't like A80, try Canon 430. (I must admit I like Canon's DC)

Nikon 5200 is a good choice,
it is user friendly, and has high resolution(5M)
it is made in Japan, and more important is that,
it just cost $3480, so I think it is the best choice for u!!!!
