I bought a A80 and found it was made in china.But my classmates told me it should made in Japan.Could you tell me which one is "shui huo" .What 's the difference between them? Who can tell me how to discern this?

Canon has a big factory in Zhuhai, making mostly entry level film cameras and lenses. It doesn'e matter where it is made, the important thing is the quality of the product (i.e., stingent Q.C. is more important than the place of manufacture).

However, the earlier A80 cameras were made in Japan. Mine was made in Japan.

In general "water goods" won't come with local dealer warranty card.

Even it is made in China the quality should still up to Canon QC standard. Don't worry.

Globalisation has it that it is not uncommon to have same products made in different places. You see this in A80, you see this in a host of other products.

Also, just a label "Made in Japan" doesn't say much anymore nowadays. For all I care, the camera could be last assemblied in Japan while all its key compenents parts like the electronics, the lens, the CCD, the motors inside could come from different places.

Labels such as "Made in China" also no longer always means second rate.

If I were you, if a label "Made in Japan" can make you sleep better at night, and you can still make that choice without paying a hugh primoum in price, go for it and do best to find an A80 that is made in Japan. But if you are already an owner of a "made in China" A80, chances are the sky won't fall on you, and you wouldn't have more problems with your A80 than one "Made in Japan". The best bet is to enjoy your camera.

Perhaps people should start to realise things made in China arn't all bad.

I remember in my younger days, the expression of 日本郵船遲早完 was common. When Honda Civic was frist introduced to North America, they rusted so badly that they were commonly called the "@!#$ box". Look at products made in Japan today. I am convinced products made in Chain are going thruough the exact transition. And the transit is a lot quicker, and the process is for most brand name products are at least 80% completed. The transition can be completed alot quicker though if only people can really give products Made in China a fighting chance.

小女子認為大陸的品管圈會較日本低, 例如日本用 SQL4, 大陸會用低過SQL4些少(自己側側膊), 但話俾人知用 SQL4, 因為連 QC 呀頭都不夠 PRO, 懶懶閒, 趁個架仔呀頭行開左, 就拿拿聲去吞 "pop", 所以一般 "made in China" 的壞機率會較高, 例如 Seagate and IBM harddisk 從 Singapore 轉去大陸生產後, 壞機率高出三成, 還有..........,

不過, 現時很多名牌工廠已慢慢改善, 及聘請外面一些專攻 Quality Control and Assurance 的人材, 希望不久將來可以改善得更好.

這是小女子十多年在大陸做品管的經驗(做到嘔血, 激到嘔血, 踢十腳, 都唔走一步), 但不方便透露是那家集團, 不過是上市的.

You say what I try to imply, but I don't want to point it out so explicitly. That is why I said QC is more important. Fortunately, the situation in Mainland is improving, and improving very quickly, as from my own experience in the past 5 years.

I understand that apart from 傻瓜機, Canon's factory in Zhuhai also make SLR 33, 888, and many low end SLR lenses (those with large f numbers).

But Nikon also make their SLRs and SLR lenses in Thailand and China.

Don't worry too much. Chances are that your A80 is as good as my A80.

其實, 大陸已能做到很多優質產品銷往日本, 在其他地方是買不到的, 做得十分出色, 就算"MADE IIN CHINA" 你都會忍唔住買, 質量很好, 而且是日本人Q貨, 很少次貨會流出市埸的, 所以, 貨是沒問題, 品管才重要.

未來名牌生產基地, 肯定是...... CHINA.

I am sure your effort and "vommitted blood" will pay off sooner or later. The QC in China will surely get better ....because of you and others. For that I thank you for giving me a real choice (from a consumer perspective) to spend my dollors towards products that I know full well part of whcih will go as wages to people in China and other developing countries.

Just hope golbisation can do much to minimize the income disparity between those who have, and those who have not.

Actually, I do not care if it was made in China or Japan.For my friends buy their A 80 .They were all made in Japan.So I wonder if it is "shui huo"
.Now I have get confirmation for Canon company.They are not "shui huo"
