這幾天翻看網上很多S60的sample，我真的不明白為何有人會說這機之畫質比其上代機S50好。就所看之相片(包括Canon自己官方照和一些用家自己拍的照片)，很多時我都發現相片是比較soft，尤其是相片之邊緣及角位，老實說是有點不可接受。雖然你晒4R相都未必會好覺眼，但我看上代機S50的照片，真的比S60 sharp，起碼邊位唔會咁矇。我唔知將sharpness調高有沒有幫助，但我相信這是Canon用在S60那新鏡頭的問題。還有紫邊亦是頗嚴重，如果有人話SONY那828係紫邊王的話，那我覺得S60在這方面亦不遑多讓。我相信很多Canon fans依然會覺得S60好正，係同級機之機王，但我想講這新款S60就畫質而言並不比舊款S50優勝，甚至我覺得係有點退步，在畫質這角度而言，我對S60是有點失望。我並不是說S60之畫質不好，在云云相機中，我想它仍有中上之畫質表現，但我和很多Canon Fans皆祈望S60之畫質應在S50之上才是。

Remember that the lens now used is 3.6x instead of the original 3x.

Do you still remember the time that g2 upgrade to g3?
The lens changed from 3x to 4x and many say that g2 is sharper than g3 while having less purple fringing.

As a matter of fact, long range zoom is hard to design. That's why those 'pro' zoom lens are always 2x - 3x:
(E.g. 17-35mm f/2.8, 24-70mm f/2.8, 70-200mm f/2.8)

Besides, do you know that the lens is now starting from 28mm. It is common to see soft corners in a wide compact lens.

Furthermore, 28mm is really useful.

ousi, that means you also admit that the photo quality of S60 is worse than S50, right? You're right, 28mm is very useful and it's technically more difficult to be designed. However, I don't think it's an excuse for worse photo quality. Canon is just using the 28mm wide angle to exchange for the worse overall photo quality. Remember when SONY launched its 828, many people also criticise its photo quality get worse (in fact it's just purple fringing). However, at that time, nobody would think about the technical difficulties of its new lens on a 8M pixels CCD too. Worse is worse, no excuse at all. I'm not saying that S60 is a bad camera. In fact, I'm considering to buy it also and that's why I'm comparing its photo quality with others and its former model S50 currently. Its numerous features and function provided as well as Canon's famous noise free picture quality still make S60 worth to buy. But I just can't accept some comment (especially those comments from some magazines)saying that its photo quality is better than S50. Obviously, it's not true at all.

How about Ricoh GX?
Ricoh is the pioneer of manufacturing wide angle DC. From the comparsion made by Digi Magazine, the photo quality of GX is much better than S60 in term of colour reproduction and less distortion.

Yea, it's a pity that Canon exchange the wide capability with photo quality.....
In fact I agree with your comment, saying that even the s50 has a better looking output.
However, I'm not saying that the s60 is bad. It's just a little bit disappointing.....hope that the soft corners are just pre-production problem...
Either convinence or quality, you decide :-) I'm having a F717 and I know how important wide lens is when in in-door/landscape. (Mine have 38mm only and I've to got an expensive wide converter(Sony's) which still give me soft corner!)

28mm is good at shooting landscape as it will give you a wider field of view and capture more scene. It also give you something known as 氣勢 when comparing with photo from 35mm lens.
Besides, when using in indoor shooting it's very convinent as you have just a limited space to place your camera. However, beware of the slight barrel distortion commonly in 28mm lens.

I've seen some sample shots from GX but it seems to me that it is not that sharp. Besides, it also suffers from noise in shadow despite using a 1/1.8 CCD. However, it is still a good choice if you consider its fast start-up time. If you can wait, wait for the S60 which has a better noise reduction performance. This is just my opinion.

我覺得S60真係真係廢左><我睇過DcFever的S60sample,
實在太不能接受.點可能哪麼差的?
雖然我係Canon的Fans,但亦不能接受Canon出的這麼廢的相機
