EF17-40 f/4L or EF28-135 f4.5-5.6 IS USM，Don't consider EF-S LENS，if want ultra wide ,EF-S 10-22 f/3.5-4.5 USM only！

Don't consider EF-S LENS?! Why? about image quality or what?
if i do not consider EF-S 17-85 then i will buy 17-40+28-135, OK?

For convenient and one single lens for all purposes, EF-S 17-85. However, 17mm's edge is very soft with chromeaberation. Otherwise it is a very good all purpose lens.

28-135 IS, you may lose the wide angle side.

don't buy 28-135IS.
it is not a good lens,
if u want IS, I think you should buy 17-85IS.

1. 28-135IS is old lens, the IS only 2 stop and not develop well... (17-85IS is much better in IS, also photo quality)
2. if you will use 1.6x crop camera for few years, prefer you to buy 17-85IS. If you will change to 1x or 1.3x, then you should buy 17-40. For the tele part, you can consider 70-200 f/4L + 50 f/1.4USM instead.

其實如果你買17-85,就要買多枝長焦,如果你買28-135,你就要買多樣廣角.所以睇o下你點諗.

如果你已有kit lens,即係18-55,咁就買28-135 IS啦,在廣角端,iS唔係咁多時候有用,如果買17-85,咁加枝小黑都幾好不過就重o的,我覺得18-55 kit lens+28-135 IS+50 1.8係我等窮人的好選擇.

I think if you will use non- 1.6x crop camera in the future,
and you don't mind IS or not,
you should choose 17-40

Or you can consider 17-40 + 50 + 100 macro (multi-use)

我會買 17-40 f4 + 85 1.8....影人影景已足夠.....

我對EFS的相心都是差D，始終Film camera 用唔到，若日後有full-frame CCD的話，D EFS 咪死咗

時代變啦, 已前的EOS3, 5, 1v, 1N 加 一枝好lens 可用10年以上，但DSLR+EFS 就唔得啦

After you get 17-40 F4L, the next medium range lens is very difficult to choose. 28-135IS has older version of IS than EF-S17-85. In dpview's forum, the general comment of 28-135 IS is not bad. I have 17-85, if you avoid 17mm with full open aperature, I use 20D Av mode and fixed the f-stop at 5.6, 17mm is not so bad. Anyway, it does not have the "L" reputation, but I like its useful zoom range.
