I am a new user and want to purchase a Canon350D. I want to ask

1) What is the meaning of USM for Canon lens?
2) Is there any lens to prevent hand shaking? (like the VF f(x) in D7D)
3) How to translate the 20-50mm (for example) to the normal reading like optical 10X, 8X?
4) For a nornal use, what is your recommendation for lens using in Canon350D with prevent hand shaking function?
