As Topic, can everyone help to explain the different between Canon EF lens and EF-S lens?

I am a new comer to D-SLR and planning to buy Canon 350D. Shopkeeper recommend me to buy EF 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6 II USM together with the Kit box to have a better coverage. Is it a good idea?

However, I read the Canon US web recommend EF-S 17-85mm f/4.0-5.6 IS USM for 350D.

Can any pro. give me your valuable suggestion?

EF lens can ues in all Canon dslr.It can cover 36mmx24mm CMOS.
EF-S lens just cover about 22mmx15mm CMOS .So it only use in 300D,
350D and 20D.

If you have enough $. I suggest you buy EF17-40 F4L($5380)+EF70-200 F4L($5830).Can cover wide to tele range.If no $.Kit lens+EF55-200 F4.5-5.6 ll USM ($1850)are fun to play.

The price of EF70-200 F4L and EF55-200 F4.5-5.6 II USM are more than double. I know it is 'cos of L-lens. But it is observable the different on the photo?

I am thinking of buying the kit + either one of above.

Me too. My worry is the physical length of EF70-200 F4L, not convenient for travels. Hope friends can advise.
