If you go to Bangkok on your own, you can take a motor boat (like a gondola) ride through the canals & sub-canals. There are some attactive scene on the way. The only problem is your camera may easily get "wetted". So be careful.

Other attractions such as the palace and temples are mainly located besides the river: good place for taking photos.

If you do have time (you need 1 whole day) and of course money as well, go to Hotel Shangri-La (again at the river side) and join their river journey to the "ruin city" (古都).

SO, if you have 4 - 5 days in Bangkok, I prefer to take 20D rather than T3.

如果係跟團去,帶20D + 17-40 4L & 小小白應該無問題,因為去到邊都有專車接送, 如果自由行千萬唔好咁做, 咁咩發保証你咩半日就不知倒地.

不過如果only 曼谷, 都係無野好影, 都係T3吧.

記得我上次去漢城自由行咁, 我當時帶左300d同支sigma18~128, 唔係太重, 輕便. 有日行過明洞, 有見有條友仔(睇佢個樣九成係香港人), 咩著20d + 17~40L , 及一大袋架餐(睇落袋野應該有支小白), 仲有兩個仔同老婆在排隊買野, 當時好多人, 睇佢非常狠背,當時我即時感受到一鏡走天涯的好處.

Since I will spend about 4 days in Bangkok, I will try to minimize the 'weight' of my belongs and take my 20D with me. Do you think 17-40 4L and 小小白 good enough?

20D + 17-40 4L and 小小白 are really too heavy (1.5 - 2 kg??). If i were you, i would rather take the kit lens (i am only a beginner in using DSLR and so can't advise on the mix) or only 17-40 4L .

I have been to Bangkok 5-6 timers before. Actually, it is very "cheap" to take taxi nearly everywhere in Bangkok, no matter how far the trip is. Usually, it only costs you $10 - $20 for a taxi ride less than 20 minutes. The only problem is traffic congestion, so you better avoid riding taxi within the most central area such as around the "World Trade Cetre". If you want to save money, you can take "BTS" (train) or the newly-operated underground! Very cheap!!

If you do want to take photos throughout the journey (provided always that your girlfriend will not complain!!), i would recommend you to stay in Shangri-La (because it is nerwly renovated and quite convenient to go to the temple, canals, palace, less than HK$20 for taxi). I think a double room with river view will cost you less than HK$800/ night with breakfast.

To me, it would not be too heay to bring 2 kg camera + accessories if travelling as recommended above (because my luggage, except the camera, is a small back pack for a 4-days trip)
