A tripod is always a firm support, but I'm afraid the bug will fly away before I can open the tripod and adjust the position. In taking small insects and birds, should I use a monopod or a tripod?

I think monopod is good for shooting birds or sports events instead of shooting small creatures. Tripod is the best choice.

Yes, the tripod is the most reliable solution. But the bug may fly away before the setup is ok, especially I use a 3D head. Some monopods can fit 3 thin legs at the bottom. Can they help in shooting insects?
