Well I am the unlucky one then.
The following is my agony:
I had a Optio S3 a number of years ago, and was a 水貨. It broke within the first month then send back for repair. It was a CCD problem(dead). It came back 2 months later. It worked OK for the next month. Then the month after the CCD seemed not able to read some colour. After a few tries I have given it up and it left it on the conner.....:-(

So what did you do eventually? Could you get that repaired?

Avoid the Canon A series (Hong or Water) as these are many cases that the lens cannot retract back into the body. My A70 (only 8 months old) failed during my trip in Italy lat year.

I personally think that if it is going to be expensive model, then it is best if you get a 行貨 because you will lost a lot. For models like Optio S(HKD $2K), 水貨 may be considered as all you are going to lost will be less and affordable.
Another important factor to consider is brand/model - Since then I never trusted Pentax.....:-(

I think buying water goods that come from Japan will be safer. Many Canon and Nikon water goods are imported from Japan. My IXUS30 is one of these and it works well for the last 8 months.

1. Has anybody had his/her 水貨 DC broken within the 1 yr wty?
==> My Panasonic FZ-1 failed to focus at the long zoom end in about 11 months.

2. Was it really brand new? No factory settings changed, No scratches, No finger print, Not used ...etc?
==> Yes , it is brand new.

3. How fast/good is the repair service? Did the repair fix the problems
==> The repair took over 1 month.
The DC went back to Japan as evidented by the Japanese characters repair note.
They fixed the problem perfectly and still working flawlessly.

"Made in Japan" >> Much better quality on all the delicate electronic parts being assembled. I didn't find any bugs or defects in my Water DC.

Japanese will not allow themselves using undebugged DC according to their long history of benefitting their own people first.
