My short short experience with 5D:
PROs
- Focus much much better than my 10D, just shoot over 200 photos last Sunday, only less than 10 off focus.
- My 24-70 is a litte bit soft on 10D, on the other hand, I found it is very sharp on 5D.
- 感覺5D 發揮到支 L鏡 的長處
- Jpeg 直出(再配合 picture style) 真係好掂，一般相可以唔用 Raw 都 OK
- I like the picture style (even shooting RAW) very much. In DPP, when I choose the suitable picture style, the color is very good, no need for further setting, save a lot of time.
- high ISO is very useful. I shoot some outdoor photo around 6:30pm, (ISO 1600) still very good and useful, no need to run noise ninja
- Using the same lens on 5D and 10D, the background blurring of 5D is very pretty (this is because of FF)
- Using 550 as fill flash, the exposure is very accurate, much better than 10D (because of E-TTL II ??)
Cons
- weight: without grip, not comfortable when used with 70-200.
So finally buy the grip, but it is much heavier than I expected，同場有friend用 1DMkII，發覺5D只係輕少少
- LCD: big, but very dim under sunlight
- RAW is very large, RAW + small JPG, around 15MB, a 4G CF card can only hold 200 photos. Need to buy more card.

I owned 10D before, and I have both 20D and 5D. First of all, I have to confess that I am not a professional. I am an amateur, taking photos as a hobby, and I am always learning...
I felt moving a large step upwards when I upgraded 10D to 20D one year ago. I got the 20D the first day it was released in 2004. I feel that 20D is a much more reliable and useable camera than the 10D: fast start-up time (for 10D, you have to wait for 3secs), fast writing speed, joystick control for moving the photo in review mode (I still remember the funny 2-button operation in 10D), 8.2 Megapixels, 5fps, etc. Picture quality - lower noise and more pixels. What's more, the price was almost the same as 10D's. Wow, what an upgrade!
This time, 20D to 5D. Well, to be honest, the "wow" feeling is less than before. Starting from the outlook, the 5D is almost the same as 20D. For some features, they are even a step backward: 5fps to 3fps; 1/250 to 1/200 x-sync speed, etc. Having used 5D for a while, I find it a even more reliable camera than the 20D for the following reasons:
full frame - some may say EF-S lens can do the trick. I have never used one before, but I think the depth of field will be different? Of course, 5D cannot produce exactly the same effect as film cameras. But at least it can have the same frame size and depth of view. I guess it is important for landscape and portrait photos.
12.8M - with the additional pixels, now I crop pictures more happily (of course, if you always compose carefully, you may not need to do that!) In general, with the additional pixels, 5D's photos are more detailed than 20D's.
17-RAW-pictures buffer - I think this is a useful compensation for the decrease in frame rate to 3fps. When I used 20D, sometimes it is frustrating that I have to wait for the completion of card writing after taking 6 RAW pictures. With slower cards like Microdrive, the subject will already be miles away when you are ready to take the next photo... Now, with the bigger buffer, I can use continuous shooting without much worries.
Of course some may say 3fps is not enough, especially for sports photos. But my experience in using 20D is that with 5fps, most of the time I ended up with almost identical photos in a series when I used continuous shooting mode. Don't know. Perhaps for ordinary subjects in daily life, 3-4fps will be enough? If you are really serious for sports photos, the 8.5fps 1DMkIIn is the solution.
2.5" screen - lovely. Perhaps for some see-hings, if they trust their skills and camera, they don't need to review their photos so often. For me, especially during travel, it is useful to have a bigger screen to review my shots.
Spot metering - again it is useful under special lighting conditions.
Grip - although it is an accessory, I think it is one of the most major improvements for the 5D. I simply HATE the grip of 20D! The 5D grip is solid and stable.
Focussing Screeen - although 5D can only accept three kinds of focussing screens, the grid one is useful to me. It helps greatly when I take architecture or sometimes landscape photos.
On the other hand, the picture style function is nice, but if the user has time to PS the photos, I think one can achieve the same, if not better, effects...
Of course, as many see-hings said, 5D's picture quality still has room for improvement, especially for their details. But for an amateur like me, 5D's picture quality makes me happy.
5D is not perfect. One may need to adjust his/her gears to use the machine happily: you need bigger memory cards, bigger harddisk space, to always carry an external flash, etc. In my case, the processing speed of a 12.8M photo in my computer is not so high!!
In sum, I think the 5D is a more reliable and competent camera than the 20D or 10D. I think I can use it for the next few years. It is not perfect, but to an amateur like me, it has almost all I need. I will couple it with my 20D: for most of the situations I will use 5D; and for fast sports and wildlife, I will use 20D for its 5fps and 1.6x magnification.
