your camera may be set in AF-S mode, meaning that the camera will not let you take a picture unless proper focus is aquired.

Always half press to get focus at the desired point before shooting, or switch to AF-C mode if you're shooting moving objects. This way, the camera will continuously track focus and will lt you take the shot even if it is not in focus.
