D50 is a very good choice, i have a D70 but used a D50 for a while and at ISO 1600 the D50 is so much better. you can very quickly get used to the lack of front command dial and lack of buttons as well. It's much bettr value for money.

as a new hand and no time to moderate photo, D50 is better for me?

D50 will give you much better looking photos stright out of the camera than a D70. I have the D70 and photos stright out of the camera is always very dull and unsaturated. That's why i never shoot JPEG with mine, only RAW. I've played with a D50 for a week and the JPEG from it look much better, much more vibrant and can definitely be used for direct printing. Shooting RAW is the way to go if you have time to post process, in that case, both cameras are identical at low ISO.

The D50 will be perfect for capturing your baby as the AF system should more than keep up with him/her and there's also a child mode on it, optimised for children skin tone. Not saying that the D70 is useless, but it requires much more time to get good results from it.

BTW you should consider getting the D50 body with the D70 kit lens(18-70 DX). It's a far superior lens compared to the 18-55 that comes with the D50 and doesn't cost much more, around 4100 for the body and 2000 for the lens.

Don't buy a kit set, the lens has "black conner" when wide angle ga.
I advice u buy the body la!

i'm quite unterested in the lens of 18-200VR.
how's the performance of this lens?

well black corners is why i didn't get the 18-70 with my D70. I got the 18-35 instead, it covers a smaller range, is more expensive but could be used on a film body and doens't have black corners. I don't advice you to do that because it is simply not as good value for money if you shoot digital only. the black corners are not a major issue anyway as they will be cropped out when you send it out to print. If you print at home, it is very easy to correct it in photoshop if it bothers you.

I won't recommend zooms starting at 28mm becuse on the D70 it would be 42mm, not very useful at all. While you're at it, why not get a nikon 50 1.8 as well? only $690 and gives you a nice aperture for shooting your baby in low light without flash, also lets you blur out the background very nicely.

So my suggested kit would be D50+18-70mm+50mm adds up to about $6900, still cheaper than getting a D70 kit and i think this kit would be much more useful for what you want to do.

Will it be complicated to post process the photos taken by a D70S so that i t will be as good looking as taken by a D50? Is the post procssing is done by Photoshop?
