I am a new user of D50 with Kit lens 18-55mm. Does any one have comments on the following:

1. Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM
2. Nikon AF 50mm f/1.8D
3. Nikon AF-S 55-200mm f/4.0-5.6G DX ED
4. Nikon AF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6D ED
5. Sigma 70-300mm F.4-5.6 APO Macro SUPER II
6. Sigma 70-300MM F4-5.6 APO DG MACRO

are u happy with the performance of D50 Kit set ? Some said the lens is not good enough. Some said Sigma's lenses are no good as they get dusty easily.

Tokina 12-24 is much better than Sigma 10-20 in term of image quality and built quality. Go Tokina!
For 70-300(not 2.8len), all lens get soft above 200mm, if u really need tele, get the $750 Nikon 70-300G instead.
Nikon AF-S 55-200 is good compact len, especially for the price. You can also consider Nikon 28-200G (around $2200) which has a very good reputation and better built quality:

50 1.8 is low cost prime len mainly for portrait(DSLR), which is very sharp. But Nikkor 60mm f2.8 macro is probably the best portrait len for Nikon DSLR, one of the most sharpest len in the world! My friend hv it, I was amazed it's sharpness.

Thank you for all of you which is very constructive.
For a new user, I love it cause' it faster than DC a lot, it is good for me to shoot my energetic baby. And the color is also better.
However, when I use the flash, it will take longer.

Could anyone tell me why the price of Nikon 70-300G or
Nikon 28-200G are so low or attractive ?

Sigma 30mm too expensive la.
Indoor: Yr kit len with a SB600/SB800 with bounce will probably yield better image indoor than a 30mm prime.
Outdoor: The Nikon 70-300 is one of the nikon's best deal. Set iso to 400/800 (low iso in yr D50) and limit zoom range within 230mm. You can still take good pic. Beside f4 at 70mm is not bad either.

I am more than happy to see so many replies and I believe all of the suggestions are wholehearted.
As we are individual, it is inevitable to have different views and I deem it as a debate and all of you can exchange your views. Also, I can get more info thro it.

I suggest :

50 F1.8 : $690 with big aperture, no need flash, even not shooting baby, good for other use

AFS 55-200 $15xx, this lens is smaller / lighter than 70-300, AFS provide faster AF than any 70-300.

Also need to buy a external flash which can bounce flash at ceiling, F1.8 can't help much at dark indoor.

PS : Nikon has new lens AFS 70-300 ED VR, but don't know when it comes to market and $

My friend tell me I have to buy a filter to protect the len or it will be easily damaged?

If I buy a filter, which one would you recommend.
