I am a beginner. I had brough a 400D body yesterday and the shop quote the kit lens $500 to me. I am thinking is this value or not. If not, how much would you paid in this situation. Please help, many many thanks..........

It's best for beginner because you don't know what lens you need.
You could use it for months, if you think it's enough, then just ok$500
If you think need upgrade, just lose $100-$200 to sell it, it's worth for used months.
However, some technique you should know to take better photo by kit (i.e. 收光圈)

The alternative of kit lens is Tarmon 17-50/f2.8 ($2780), the adv. is taking good without learning the above technique

additional 50mm/f1.8 ($650) is good for beginner to 影人像 and indoor
