They are 2 different type of DSLR for different users, can't compare. I tried to compare the photos by my colleague's D80 & my 400D, I prefer:

photo quality on kit lens: D80
noise level of photo: 400D lower noise for the same ISO
build quality: D80
price: 400D
lens focusing speed for telephotos: 400D
lens focusing speed for wide: identical
focusing speed in the dark: 400D
price of accessories: D80 is a winner [SB800 flash water good 2.3k vs 580EX water good 2.8 k]


Buy D80 if u have $ & other famous Nikon lenses
Buy 400D if u don't have enough $

首先,noise 控制方邊 dcview,dpreview 都已經比較過 d80既noise係"明顯"地比400d好
同埋對焦速度跟本就同部機無直接關係 你又點樣比較呢
對焦速度主要係睇鏡頭

(A) First of all, this is not a place initiate a war between C A N O N & NIKON. I used both systems.

they said "As well as shooting our studio test scene at each camera's lowest sensitivity we also shot it at ISO 800 and 1600. Canon's superior image processing and perhaps milder noise reduction maintains more detail at ISO 800 (although not by a large margin), at ISO 1600 things are more balanced with certainly more noticeable chroma noise than from the Nikon D80."

2. Have u compared noise level of the RAW from 400D with the RAW from D80 at ISO 100 to 800? May be @1600, D80 beat 400D, but for 100 to 800, its another story.

I shoot more telephotos, my institute has a no. of telephotos, the focusing speed of C A N O N in L telephoto is KING

moreover, the focusing speed of a lens-SLR combination depends on the phase detection mechanism AND the motor installed in the lens OR the camera body, in terms of focusing speed, C A N O N's USM speed is faster on average for the same focal length, e.g. 70-200/f2.8 range

For open discussion, I found the final comments given by dpreview.com is "High sensitivity (ISO) noise levels higher than Canon EOS 400D" &

你明唔明dpreview講咩嫁其實??
我睇左好多次 都係睇到佢話
d80既表現意外地比400d出色
重有dpreview既比較只係用左d80既 標準NR
重有二個比標準NR高既消除noise級數
分別係低同高 如果用左high nr黎比較
我諗結果明顯好多 你也無話可說了
dcview 更加用左nr關閉黎同400D同α100比較
但結果都係d80勝出

補充一點:
FROM DCVIEW
此外，Nikon D80 還提供了高感光雜訊抑制功能。我們也另外開啟這項功能進行測試。發現在 ISO 100, 200, 400 時這項功能並不會作用，在 ISO 800 之後則會有顯著效果。此時 ISO 800, 1600 的雜訊狀況則與 ISO 200, 400 差不多！
用左HIGH NR d80 iso 800,1600的noise同ISO200,400 差唔多

It's no point to rise a D80 vs 400D war, I have both D80 & 400D on hand, I know what is the truth when u shoot RAW, ISO 800 or below, 400D wins; ISO 1600 wins. This was proved from over 300 photos on my hand taken from wedding job.
