24-85 f/2.8-4
only good if you are a super nikon fans/ super nikonian.
cuz, there are many lens offer similar or even better PQ with lower price.

85mm f/1.8
good as a first step for portrait (mainly outdoor or in function)
and you will need a lot technique to handle it well enough.


ps here :
the fix-focal lens suggestion.
if you prefer shooting indoor or daily-life,
50 f/1.4 or 35 f/2,with similar price, will be a lot better.

I suggest buy a zoom lens which cover the fix-focal length lens before buying them. therefore you can try and find out what "mm" which you really want.

for example
If someone prefer 3:7 of girl and landscape. he get a 24mm. and buying 50/85 for him will be a crap.
