I found the inaccurate focus of Can0n annoying.
Since this is acceptable in smaller aperture I'm still using it.

On the other side it gives less grain than older Nikxn models at higher ISO.

If I could start over again I start with new Nikxn D40 + EFS 18-70mm compliment with Sigma 10-20mm, 100-300mm, 150mm macro
All these lenses are decent with auto focus on D40.

I buy the ideas of putting motor in every individual lens instead of in the body long time ago (20years), other than Nikon to handle this problem (D40) after twenty years.

It proved that this concept is more mature than motor built in body. That means Canon have a better vision than some other camera producer.

I am a Canon user from film to now DSLR.

The main reason for sticking with Canon is that Canon provides the most advanced technologies with consistent product upgrades.

The range of choices and quality of the Canon lenses are by-far the most complete. Cano like Nikon enjoys many 3rd party lense support.

Remember this:
1. Canon the first with USM for so many years. Nikon follows it now with D40 (no focus motor in body)
2. Canon the first with IS for more than 10 years.
3. Canon the first with CMOS as the image sensor.
4. Canon the first to release sub-US$1000 DSLR.
5. Canon ergonomics design is the best for many years.

Now, the competition makes the market more mature and technologies advance more rapidly. I think Canon needs to be more price friendly with its "L" lenses and other EF-S lenses as well.

The back focus problem is there but not that important after the launch of 400D.

In fact, all camera will subject to out of focus in some tricky situation, even Nikon has been complained by some users.

I agreed with dixonkwok that Canon has a longer vision than other.

In some situation taking a picture may be more important than a bit out of focus so sometimes fast focus can capture the important moment but may be it may lead to out of focus on some difficult situation.

Nowadays, there are many choices other than Canon and Nikon. So, back focus problem will not deter others from buying Canon or other brands. High-tech products will not be perfect, otherwise the industry will be dead. Each brand and product has its own problems.

It depends on you to decide if it is reasonable or not. You can try it first.

Nikon DSLRs have their own problem of focusing, color blending and even system dead. Will it prevent others to buy them? The answer is a definitely "No".

Hence, all brands have their own problems. The key is that if you can accept that, you buy it. Otherwise, go for another brand.

No need to just focus on one brand like Canon and Nikon. Remember that Minolta has the most innovative and flawless technologies for many years. But it still died in the face of market competition.

我班朋友的第一部dslr都係can0n，跟住才發覺天外有天，影得靚過can0n的品牌原來大把，於是趁未有十幾支鏡同幾支閃燈前快快轉會，我自己都係其中一個，但都買過兩部can0n機！
