Just bought some equipment recently and do the calculation, the monies I spend on photographic equipment is more then the monies my father spent on his home theater system. And a single fast lens (those 2.8 lens) could easily buy you a computer or two.

Just what I bought recently, namely a 10.5 fisheye, a 800 flash and the lately Sigma 18 - 50 Marco, I would buy a server ready computer with a decent CPU, 4 GB RAM, 1 TB storage on RAID 5 and other nice features like screw-less chassis, etc.

Thinking of the days when I ran two streets to get a $20 discount on computer systems, the monies saved is nothing when compared to photography.

Walking down the street, Photoshop costs $6xxx, a decent home theater amplifier costs $5000, or $15000 for those expensive ones. A D2Xs costs $3xxxx, a Can0n DC cost more then Windows Vista.

I think photography is really really expensive. Guys, what do you think ?

Chris, it depends.

If expensive gadgets are what you are after, you can spend much much more than you are now spending. How about a Hasselblad with digital back?

Or you could get back to the basic, drill a pin hole in a closed wooden box.

However, you are well off and so keep on rewarding for your hard work, the money you spend will benefit the economy anyway.

But I think the photographic equipment is so overprized, I went to Ap Liu Guy in Shum Sui Po recently, you can spend $28 for a air-blow pump, or $70 for a light tripod/stand and I had a very pleasing buying experience there.

If I don’t have enough monies at Ap Liu Guy, I get a three dollar discount. But if you buy them in Mong Kwok, it will cost double or triple..

I just think is that a $5000 Nikon really cost or worth 5000...... It just too too too expensive these days !!

在下用在相機上的金錢同樣多於音響器材. 而且最主要原因是, 相機不是日日用(如果你不是專業攝影師) , 但音響器材可以日日聽. 相對下相機器材其實非常貴. 所以我已經放棄了UPGRADE相機的計劃, 把UPGRADE 相機的金錢改為UPGRADE 自己 SET HIFI 線材.

Playing with car is much more expensive, no matter how expensive your camera bodies or lens you brought their re-sale value is definitely higher than second hand car.

If you don't believe go to have a look in the second hand page at DCfever and compare with any second hand car sell advistisment you will agree what I said.

The re-sale value percentage is much much higher than re-sale value of car.
